Prior to joining the OASIS staff in 2001, Gannon served as chairman of the OASIS Board of Directors. His contributions and commitment to the consortium are gratefully recognized by the members, staff, and fellow Board directors. In accordance with the consortium's bylaws, the current chairman of the OASIS Board, Eduardo Gutentag of Sun Microsystems, will serve as interim president. A Board search committee has been formed to identify candidates; interested parties are asked to contact jobs@oasis-open.org. The group plans to serve as the maintenance body for ebXML specifications completed or transitioned to the TC. The ebCore TC may also produce new conformance profiles and adjunct documents complementing existing specifications. It will explore synergies with UN/CEFACT, WS-* specifications and SOA best practices. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Sponsor members, Axway Software, Boeing, and Fujitsu, and Contributor members, British Telecommunications and Sonnenglanz Consulting. The comment period for the charter closes 25 Feb 2008. http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200802/msg00004.html ------------------------------------------------------------------- Consortium solicits feedback on proposed ORMS TC charter Members are asked to review and comment on a draft charter to establish the OASIS Open Reputation Management Systems (ORMS) TC. The group plans to develop a system that provides the ability to use common data formats for representing reputation data and standard definitions of reputation scores. The TC's output will enable the deployment of distributed reputation systems that can be either centralized or decentralized with the ability for aggregators and intermediaries to be part of the business model. TC proposers include representatives of OASIS Foundational Sponsor, IBM, and Sponsor members, Booz Allen Hamilton, Cordance, Google, NRI, VeriSign, and others. The comment period for the charter closes 22 Feb 2008. http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200802/msg00004.html ------------------------------------------------------------------- BPEL XML.org launches OASIS has introduced a new XML.org online community web site dedicated to supporting the Web Services Business Process Execution Language (WS-BPEL) and related specifications including BPEL4People. BPEL provides a method for formally describing business processes and business interaction protocols using Web services. BPEL XML.org enables users, developers, and vendors from around the world to share information and learn from one another. Sponsored by BEA Systems and IBM, the site incorporates a wiki knowledgebase, news features, event calendar, product directory, forums, and blogs. BPEL is the newest addition to the XML.org family of OASIS web sites; others include DITA, ebXML, IDtrust, OpenDocument, and UDDI. http://bpel.xml.org ------------------------------------------------------------------- Second public review begins for EDXL-RM The OASIS Emergency Management TC has submitted its Emergency Data Exchange Language Resource Messaging (EDXL-RM) 1.0 Committee Draft for a second public review. EDXL-RM describes a suite of standard messages for data sharing among emergency and other information systems that deal in requesting and providing emergency equipment, supplies, people and teams. The review ends 15 April 2008. http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200802/msg00005.html ------------------------------------------------------------------- Web Services Reliable Exchange (WS-RX) TC approves Errata Participants in the OASIS Web Services Reliable Exchange (WS-RX) TC have approved Errata for Web Services Reliable Messaging 1.1, Web Services ReliableMessaging Policy 1.1, and Web Services MakeConnection 1.0. These protocols are designed to ensure reliable message exchange using Web services. http://www.oasis-open.org/archives/tc-announce/200802/msg00002.html ------------------------------------------------------------------- OASIS eGov seeks abstracts for Electronic Identity Workshop The OASIS eGovernment Member Section will host a workshop on "Electronic Identity and Citizen-Centric Administration" on 1 May in conjunction with the Open Standards 2008 symposium in Santa Clara, California. The eGov workshop will focus on authentication, security, composability for Web services, interoperability frameworks, and implementation guidelines for open standards. Proposals for panels, presentations or discussion papers related to these themes should be submitted to the OASIS eGov Steering Committee by 3 March. http://events.oasis-open.org/home/symposium/2008/egovworkshop ------------------------------------------------------------------- TAB announces tutorials for Open Standards 2008 The OASIS Technical Advisory Board has announced an exciting line-up of tutorials for the Open Standards 2008: "Composability within SOA" symposium. These half-day tutorials will be held in the morning and afternoon on Monday, 28 April, at the Santa Clara Marriott. Attendees of the symposium may attend the tutorials at no additional cost. Those able to attend only the tutorials may do so for a separate fee. Register before 17 March and save 100 USD. http://events.oasis-open.org/home/symposium/2008/tutorials ------------------------------------------------------------------- U.S. Congressional report recognizes CAP OASIS Standard A new U.S. Congressional Research Service report, "Emergency Alert System (EAS) and All-Hazard Warnings" recognizes widespread acceptance for the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) OASIS Standard. The report describes ongoing measures to improve the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) network and the new Digital EAS.
